Anything at all. What's the most America way to get around?
Why do I ask, you say? Because I just wrapped up a year-long series of Opposodes, which I began on November 22nd 2013, inspired by the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ... which is the Ford F-Series. Over the past year, I've gained a lot of perspective on what you guys think about all 50 states. But what about the country itself?
Also, if you think the most America vehicle happens to be the F-Series, then by all means put it down.
And as always...
Choose wisely!
This is !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , a year long 51 part series of Opposodes where I gather Oppositelock's view of America in the form of cars.

Competition Orange
It's just so perfect. I've always wanted an orange car, and it reminds of all the colorful muscle and pony cars that were around way back when. It also complements how much more the new car stands out in comparison to past variants. I am worried though, that like Lime Rock Green Metallic on the C7, it won't be a one-year color; that would ruin it for me, but if they brought back Grabber Blue or Green...
I'm currently planning on saving and planning on selling more of my things online to save up some time. And I'd like to also trade in my FoST too, because of the large down payment we put on it, we've got equity on that loan; so maybe in a year...

Oh. I didn't realize that they offered it on the previous generation.

K-Roll-PorscheTamer

11/22/2014 at 22:06 | 0 |
Grabber Blue and Gotta Have It Green were the brightest colors for the previous model year. Oh, and that yellow-ish orange color that they had on the Boss 302.
The GT 350 is in Oxford White. Wimbledon White is only on the 50th anniversary limited edition model:
(Oxford White is in the background, Wimbledon is in the front)
I've seen Deep Impact Blue, and it's too dark for my taste, and I've had two blue cars already, need a change of scenery haha. :)
Don't get me wrong, it is definitely a good color, but I don't like this blue.

I think I prefer the Oxford White. The Wimbledon White has an eggshell white to it.

You're absolutely right! It was called School Bus Yellow. Wimbledon White seems to be more of an off-white or light beige of sorts.
I didn't like the new Triple Yellow tri-coat in online pictures, but after I saw it in person, it was brilliant and pretty good looking, but it reminded me too much of a Camaro for some reason.
Really stands out doesn't it. I'm genuinely enjoying this conversation. :)

That's a good question sir. I'm honestly not sure. I originally thought that when Carol Shelby passed away, the 2014's would be the last GT500s and Mustangs to have his name, and that the New Stang would be an ST or SVT of sorts. It'd be interesting if they had a GT500 to sell alongside the GT350, two high performance Mustangs in the lineup would be pretty sweet. But I love the 500+hp N/A V8 the GT350 has, that is quite the accomplishment for Ford. I'd certainly love to see another GT500 in the future, and definitely with at least 700hp.
What do you think?
CAcoalminer
> K-Roll-PorscheTamer
11/22/2014 at 22:56 | 1 |
I think they will because they have already had the GT500 and Boss 302 at the same time, so I don't see why not. Also, they appeal to different audiences so I don't think they would cannibalize each other's sales. For instance, the GT500 is for the guy who wants the most powerful Mustang while the GT350 is for the person who wants a powerful, balanced machine that is track capable.
I love the GT350's engine as well. I'm so glad that Ford took the risk and made it. I suspect quite a few people will be snatching them up once they are offered as crate engines. In addition, I'm excited that it still sounds like an American V8 and not a Ferrari. I'm not saying Ferraris don't sound nice but something about an American V8 bellow resonates with me better.
I'm interested to see what Chevy will do with the new Camaro to compete.
K-Roll-PorscheTamer
> CAcoalminer
11/22/2014 at 23:06 | 0 |
Good points. I love the fact that this V8 sounds like a V8 we haven't heard from a production car in who knows how long! I'd never even heard of a flat plane crank before this car. I'm very glad Ford made something like this. Perhaps a GT350 for the track and the GT500 for the strips. :)
I don't know much about GM, but I'd like to see how the Camaro will stack up; it'll be on a new platform but not much will change powertrain-wise, I don't think. What do you think?
And also, I had an financial question for you.
CAcoalminer

It is quite a unique sound.
That's not surprisingly as most vehicles doesn't use them. I'd heard of them but never fully understood them until the Jalopnik article.
That sounds about right. I'm wondering whether a new GT500 would utilize a modified version of the 5.8 in the previous generation.
I don't see any major changes either except the use of the ATS-V's engine in at least one of the models. Also, I hope that it does lose weight like they claim.
What about?
K-Roll-PorscheTamer
> CAcoalminer
11/22/2014 at 23:23 | 0 |
That was one of the most, if not, the most informative and enlightening Jalopnik posts I've read in a while, I go back to read it every now and then because it's just so fascinating.
I'd like to see the GT500 use a modified 5.2 with forced induction somehow.
The ATS-V uses a 3.6L V6 TT, I'm not sure where it'd fit in the Camaro's lineup, especially making that kinda power. It'd have to replace the V8 with power like that, and I don't think many enthusiasts would like that right now..
About used cars. Is truly a better financial buy over a new one? I mean I guess it comes to a point whether or not emotions play a role in what you want to buy. I thought buying a new car was very special, not as special as my first car, but very close because I would be the first to own the car. But with modern cars, is it really worth it financially to buy new? I just love the thought of actually taking delivery of a car you ordered and being the first to have it. Ya know what I mean? Have you ever had thoughts like this?
CAcoalminer
> K-Roll-PorscheTamer
11/22/2014 at 23:41 | 1 |
I agree. It's articles like that that amaze me about Jalopnik.
As would I.
True but it would help with their fuel economy rating and allow for them to make a crazy powerful top of the range model.
If we're talking in strictly financial since, used cars are definitely the better route, especially with higher priced models. Also, with so many automakers offering certified pre-owned programs, you can basically get a nearly new car with a full warranty and save a few thousand. That being said, there is definitely something special about buying a new car, especially if you ordered it. You know that you are getting every single option that you want and that they car hasn't been abused by its previous owner. Ultimately, it comes down to whether you want to save a few thousand or have the piece of mind that the car is still mint (I'm not trying to imply that pre-owned cars are all abused but some things even the best scans and inspections can't detect).
I do know what you mean and I have had thoughts like that. When I was younger and not as financially comfortable as I am now, I used to always buy used cars because they allowed me to have interesting vehicles for much less than a new one. However, as time went on, I began to buy new because I liked to choose the options on my vehicles and depreciation wasn't really of much concern anymore. In addition, you have to realize that we didn't have the internet, so finding the exact car that you wanted wasn't as easy as it is today.
K-Roll-PorscheTamer
> CAcoalminer
11/23/2014 at 00:05 | 0 |
I'm not sure if Ford does Certified Pre-Owned stuff, or if it depends on dealers; I've seen it mostly with upper end cars like Porsche and BMW. CPO would definitely be the way to go though if possible I bet. I mean, some cars, like my 944, there's no way to get a new one, but with modern cars, it just begs the question.
I don't want many options, only two: The 50 years package(hoping that it's still around, if not the premium interior option, and 3.55 gears). But that only comes on the GT premium which is already $36k and I doubt that even trading in the ST, that'd be a smart choice.
When I first got the ST, I didn't care about depreciation because I thought I'd have the car forever, but now that I'm much more educated than before, there's so many variables to think about now. :(
Logically, I could not even afford the Mustang GT spec'd the way I'd want it in a year or even two. I'd have to go V6 and mod(which isn't necessarily bad because I like the V6) but then there's the thought that "you could've had a V8". But then again, incentives and such in a year could change that.
What kinda cars have you had delivered? Did you get to do the really cool thing where they take it off the truck and whatnot? I think videos like that are very cool!
CAcoalminer
> K-Roll-PorscheTamer
11/23/2014 at 00:20 | 0 |
Apparently, Ford does offer it but I'm not sure how it stacks up to what the high end manufacturers offer.
http://www.ford.com/certified-used…
Well, at least you know what options you want.
There are indeed a lot of variables to consider and that's what makes car ownership so though for car enthusiasts. One the one side, you want a really cool car and don't want to consider depreciation. However, the realistic side of you is constantly thinking about it. It must be easy for non car people to buy cars.
You never know, like you said incentives might change or someone might trade in the exact car that you like and it might be offered at a price that you can afford.
There have been a few but my most recent one was my wife's Model S. We didn't get to do the cool trunk unload with that car but I have seen cars delivered that way.

I'm just glad they have one. This seems to be a decent CPO system, not sure how it compares though:
12-month/12,000 mile comprehensive limited warranty coverage*
Seven-year/100,000 mile powertrain limited warranty coverage*
A 172-point vehicle inspection.
CARFAX ® Vehicle History Report
I wonder how it compares to the competition. Hopefully one close to what I want will show up someday, that'd be awesome.
But there's one problem that I hadn't considered..
The loan is currently in my dad's name, and I've got no credit history to speak of. I need to begin to establish credit for myself right away. Is there any way the loan could be put in my name without refinancing, since I already pay for the car from my bank account and haven't missed a single one?

CAcoalminer
> K-Roll-PorscheTamer
11/23/2014 at 01:12 | 1 |
I understand.
I don't think you're jumping too far ahead. Just be realistic about what you can and can't afford at that specific time in your life. If your car payment is forcing you to work all the time and have very little left over to use for fun but not necessary things like activities with friends, then maybe so but that decision is all up to you. At some point you have to step back and ask yourself whether the end result justifies the means. Anyway, just take some time to think about it. Run the numbers, make a plan, discuss it with your parents, and then make the best decision that you can with the information available.
K-Roll-PorscheTamer

So many thoughts. it really is difficult to think realistically. And then I have to discuss it with my parents, my addiction with trying new cars. -_-
I don't even know how to justify this??
Hopefully I can find a GT that has depreciated with low enough miles plus CPO and incentives, but that might be asking for too much as well..

I've been doing spec'ing on the website and here's what I've come up with for my current situation.
The idea is that because of the equity on the FoST, I want at least $9000 for the trade-in, and then I want to put at least $4-5000 down. I want the payments to be for no more than around $350 per month. Here's what happens on the three choices I want:
GT Premium with premium interior trim and 3.55 gears is cutting it very close, with a loan for 72 months and the aforementioned down payment and trade-in to get this price.
A regular GT with 3.55 gears is only $20 more than what I pay on the FoST.
V6 with 3.55 gears and some other bits is a gold mine, but not a V8 -_-
I really am thinking hard about this. I wonder how much of a hit, if any, I'd be taking on this if this happens..
